Lincoln University Malaysia’s Founder/President Graces Inaugural Matriculation at NSUK Campus, Keffi

Keffi, Nasarawa State – In a landmark event on September 13th, 2024, Lincoln University Malaysia, NSUK Campus, held its inaugural matriculation ceremony at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK). The event marked a significant milestone, with over 500 students admitted into various academic programmes, approved by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

The ceremony was a vibrant affair, graced by dignitaries from international organizations, government bodies, the private sector, professional associations, as well as parents and well-wishers. A key highlight of the event was the attendance of Lincoln University Malaysia’s Founder and President, Professor Amiya Bhaumik, who delivered an inspiring speech about the institution's mission to make world-class education accessible in Nigeria.

Professor Bhaumik announced that 2,400 students have been awarded an 80% scholarship , making it possible for many to pay tuition fees equivalent to those of government institutions. He emphasized that this initiative is part of the university's commitment to providing affordable, high-quality education.

Accompanying Professor Bhaumik was Professor Bibi Florina, Pro-Chancellor of Lincoln University Malaysia, who reiterated the university's dedication to nurturing future leaders through global academic excellence. She highlighted the importance of the partnership between Lincoln University and NSUK, noting that it would play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education in Nigeria.

NSUK’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Saadatu Hassan Liman, alongside her principal officers, also took center stage. In a post-event interview, she expressed her excitement at NSUK being the first Nigerian university to host an international institution on its campus. "This partnership will set a new standard for higher education in Nigeria," she remarked. "We are delighted to be part of this historic moment and remain committed to maintaining high academic standards for our students."

During the ceremony, Mr. Kichime Gotau, Head of Public Affairs at Lincoln University, NSUK Campus, emphasized the scholarship’s role in bridging the gap between the privileged and the underprivileged, ensuring equitable access to top-tier education. “This initiative will balance education between the haves and the have-nots,” he noted.

The matriculation event was a celebration of both academic achievement and cultural heritage, with performances reflecting Nigeria’s rich traditions, further strengthening the ties between Lincoln University Malaysia and NSUK. A matriculating student expressed optimism, stating, “Parents can expect the best, as they’ve made the right choice by sending their wards here.”

Lincoln University Malaysia’s establishment in Nigeria is the result of the National Universities Commission’s Transnational Education Programme (TNE), aimed at enhancing international academic collaboration.
