REPORT ON EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH TO SECONDARY SCHOOLS (SDG 4)

LCSMT, LUC, and NSUK are champions of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and are committed to contributing to the achievement before the year 2030. The educational outreach to schools is a program designed in line with SDG 4, to support quality education in schools in the immediate environment and create awareness on the SDGs among young students.

“Discover your Path- Building blocks for Career Success” is a comprehensive career education program dedicated to empowering and guiding young minds/ students towards successful career paths, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to make informed decisions about their career paths, and providing them with valuable insights into various industries, Identifying personal strengths, interests, and values in relation to career choices, emerging job trends, employ-ability skills, practical tips for resume building and interview preparation, and the necessary skills required to excel in the modern workplace.

● To train leaders who will have a positive impact on their societies

The program commenced at 11:00 am with prayers led by a Christian and Muslim student. Following the prayers, Mr. Mohammed, the Event Host, delivered the welcome address and introduced the organisers to the students. Miss Mary was then invited to introduce the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and explained their significance, the purpose of their development, and how we aim to support quality education (SDG 4) through the school outreach program, aligning with other SDGs.

The first speaker, Mr. Yusuf, took the stage and enlightened the students on the importance of early career exploration and preparation. He provided guidelines for choosing a suitable career path and shared principles of effective leadership.

Next, Miss Lilian educated the students on entrepreneurship, covering topics such as starting out as an entrepreneur, networking, and important principles for establishing and sustaining oneself as an entrepreneur from a young age.

The students of Higher Glory Secondary School delivered an informative presentation on the positive and negative effects of parents making career choices for their children, which is a prevalent issue in society. The team further elaborated on this topic.

The third speaker, Mr. Mohammed, enlightened the students on leveraging social media for personal, educational, career, and entrepreneurial growth. He provided guidelines to protect themselves from the dangers of social media and social media addiction.

The team of experts developed engaging presentations and interactive activities tailored to the needs and interests of the students. Each talk was followed by a question-and-answer session, allowing the students to express themselves and seek advice from the team members.

To encourage research on career paths, a debate presentation on the topic "STEM Careers vs. Arts and Humanities Careers: Which Offers Better Job Opportunities?" was held. Prizes were awarded to the winners and participants.

Mr Lukman encouraged the students to visit the LSCMT Abuja branch at Azhata to meet with trained counsellors who are ever willing to answer their questions and offer career guidance based on their individual abilities. Miss Mary was then called upon to deliver the closing speech, where she encouraged the students to apply the knowledge they gained from the training and strive to be impactful leaders in all aspects of their lives.

The event concluded around 1:00 pm, followed by the capturing of photographs and video testimonials of the students and staff.

REACH & SCALE: The outreach program engaged 7 school staff members (5 male, 2 female) and 87 students, demonstrating our commitment to widespread educational impact.
